Section 14: SPEAKING ABOUT THE ARMOR OF THE GREAT VEHICLE (2)

At that time, the Venerable Subhuti addressed the Buddha:
World-Honored One, as I understand the meaning of what the Buddha has taught: the great Bodhisattva does not wear the armor of merit — know that this is wearing the armor of the Great Vehicle. Why? Because the own-marks of all dharmas are empty. Why? World-Honored One, because form and the mark of form are empty; feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness and the marks of feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness are empty. The eye base and the mark of the eye base are empty; the ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind bases and the marks of the ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind bases are empty. The Buddha told Subhuti:
So it is, so it is — exactly as you have said! Subhuti should know: all-wisdom is neither made nor caused; all sentient beings are also neither made nor caused. It is for this matter that the great Bodhisattva wears the armor of the Great Vehicle.

The Venerable Subhuti addressed the Buddha:
World-Honored One, for what reason is all-wisdom neither made nor caused? Are all sentient beings also neither made nor caused? Is it for this matter that the great Bodhisattva wears the armor of the Great Vehicle?

At that time, the Venerable Subhuti addressed the Buddha:
World-Honored One, as I understand the meaning of what the Buddha has taught: form is neither bound nor released; feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness are neither bound nor released. Why? World-Honored One, because the nature of form has no possession, therefore it is neither bound nor released; because the nature of feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness has no possession, therefore they are neither bound nor released. Because the nature of form is remote, therefore it is neither bound nor released; because the nature of feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness is remote, therefore they are neither bound nor released.
