Mahaprajnaparamita_v135

THE GREAT Prajnaparamita Sutra
VOLUME 135
Chapter 30: COMPARISON OF MERITS (33)

Kāśika, if good men and good women teach all kinds of sentient beings in the ten directions of the world like the sands of the Ganges River, causing them to all reside in the state of Solitary Enlightenment, then the merit and virtue they will gain is not as good as having someone who teaches a single sentient being towards the highest state of Enlightenment. Why? Kāśika, because if we educate sentient beings towards the highest level of Enlightenment, the Buddha’s eyes in the world will never end. Why? Because of the Great Bodhisattva, there is the fruit of stream-entry, once-returning, non-returning, arahantship and lone enlightenment; Because there is a Great Bodhisattva, there is a Tathagata who attains the highest level of Enlightenment. Because of the Great Bodhisattva, there are Buddha treasures, Dharma treasures, Sangha treasures, and all the worlds take refuge and make offerings. Therefore, Kāśika, all the worlds, are they Gods, Demons, Brahmas, Monks, Brahmins, Athlete and non-human beings? Should we use countless types of flower garlands, incense rubs, and incense powders? Wonderful clothes, beautiful clothes, flags, banners, precious parasols, precious gems, good music, bright lights, all existing things, respectfully make offerings, respectfully praise the Great Bodhisattva.

Hey Kāśika, therefore should know, If good men, The good lady copied the profound Prajnaparamita like that, give it to others to recite, or pass it around to copy, widely spread, then the blessings obtained are immeasurable more than the blessings mentioned before, boundless. Why? Because all the superior good dharmas of this world and beyond the world have been widely discussed in the secret collection of Prajnaparamita like that. Because it is because of the dharma mentioned in this secret collection of Prajnaparamita that the world has the existence of true reality, dharma realm, dharma nature, vain emptiness, unchanging nature, equality, separatist nature, statutory, dharma pillar, actually, empty realm, inconceivable realms; Because it is because of the dharma mentioned in this secret collection of Prajnaparamita that the world has the existence of the Noble Truth of suffering, Noble Truth Collection, The Holy Emperor is destroyed, Noble Truth; Because it is because of the dharma mentioned in this secret collection of Prajnaparamita that the world has the existence of the four Meditations, four Immeasurable, four formless Samadhi; Because it is because of the dharma mentioned in this secret collection of Prajnaparamita that the world has the existence of the eight Liberations, eight Lands of Victory, the ninth Dharma, ten Variable Origins; Because it is because of the dharma mentioned in this secret collection of Prajnaparamita that the world has the existence of the four pillars of Mindfulness, four Dharmas, four Spiritual Succulents, Nam Can, Five Forces, seven limbs of Equanimity, eight branches of the Holy Path; Because it is because of the dharma mentioned in this secret collection of Prajna Paramita that the world has the existence of all Dalani dharmas, all Samadhi dharmas; Because of the dharma mentioned in this secret collection of Prajnaparamita, the world has the existence of Stream-Winning, Once-returner, Unrequited, Arhats and Stream-winners, The fruit of stream-flow, One-way direction, One-return result, No direction, No return results, Arhat direction, A-la-han passes; Because because of the dharma mentioned in this secret collection of Prajnaparamita, the world can have the existence of Solitary Enlightenment and the fruition of Solitary Enlightenment; Because because of the dharma mentioned in this secret collection of Prajnaparamita, the world has the existence of all Great Bodhisattvas and Great Bodhisattva practices; Because because of the dharma mentioned in this secret collection of Prajnaparamita, the world has the existence of all fully enlightened Tathagata and the highest Enlightenment of the Buddhas.

Furthermore, Kāśika, in addition to the sentient beings in the worlds of the ten directions, which are like the sands of the Ganges River, if good men and good women educate all kinds of sentient beings in all worlds in the ten directions, making them all practice the four Meditations, the four Immeasurables, the four formless Concentrations, and the five miraculous powers, then what do you think? Do those good men and good women receive many blessings due to this cause and effect?

Indra replied:
Venerable sir, a lot! a lot!

Buddha taught:
Hey Kāśika, if good men and good women copy such profound Prajnaparamita, give it to others to read and recite, or pass it around to copy and spread it widely, then those good men and good women will have much more merit and virtue than before. Why? Kāśika, because all the outflow-free dharmas have been extensively mentioned in the secret collection of Prajnaparamita, Bodhisattvas of the Sravaka nature who practice this dharma quickly enter the Sravaka’s right nature of separation from birth, attain Stream-winner fruition, once-returner fruition, non-returning fruition, and Arahant fruition; The Bodhisattva of the Single Enlightened nature, practicing and studying this dharma, quickly enters the right nature of separation from the Solitary Enlightenment, and in turn attains the state of Solitary Enlightenment; Bodhisattvas of the Bodhisattva nature who practice and study this dharma quickly enter the Bodhisattva’s right nature of separation from birth and attain the highest level of Enlightenment.

Kāśika, all the dharma of non-outflows have been widely mentioned in the secret collection of Prajnaparamita like that: Generosity paramita, Pure morality paramita, Forbearance paramita, Diligence paramita, Meditation paramita, Prajnaparamita; Dharma is empty inside, Dharma is empty outside, Dharma is both inside and outside, Dharma is empty, Dharma is not great, Dharma is not superior in meaning, Dharma is not conditioned, Dharma is not unconditioned, Dharma is ultimate, Dharma is empty without boundary, Dharma is not scattered, Dharma is not different, Dharma has no nature, Dharma is not self-appearance, Dharma is not combined with appearance, Dharma is empty in all dharmas, Dharma is empty that cannot be grasped, Dharma is empty without nature, Dharma is not self-nature, Dharma is empty without self-nature; suchness, the dharma realm, the dharma nature, the nature of emptiness, the nature of no change, the nature of equality, the nature of separation, the dharma of concentration, the dharma of abiding, reality, the realm of emptiness, the inconceivable realm; four immeasurable stillness, four immeasurable, four formless concentration; eight Liberation, eight Sukhavati, nine Second Concentration, ten Transfiguration; the four pillars of mindfulness, the four right cessations, the four spiritual powers, the five faculties, the five powers, the seven limbs of enlightenment, the eight limbs of the noble path; the method of liberation from Emptiness, the method of liberation from the Formless, the method of liberation from the Wishless; five types of eyes, six magical powers; the Buddha’s ten powers, the four fearlessnesses, the four clear understandings, great love, great compassion, great joy, great equanimity, eighteen uncombined Buddha dharmas; Dharma does not forget, nature is always equanimous; All-embracing wisdom, all-embracing Path knowledge, all-embracing wisdom; All Da-la-ni dharmas, all Samadhi dharmas and other immeasurable, limitless Buddha dharmas, all are the outflow-free dharmas mentioned therein.

Kāśika, if good men and good women teach one sentient being to stay in the stream of Stream-entry, the merit and virtue they will gain is greater than that of teaching all kinds of sentient beings in all worlds in the ten directions, making them all practice the four Tranquility, the four Immeasurable, the four formless Concentrations, and the five miraculous powers. Why? Kāśika, because sentient beings who practice the four Meditations, the four Immeasurables, the four formless Concentrations, and the five magical powers cannot escape hell, animals, and ghosts. But if sentient beings stay in the fruit of Stream-entry, they will be forever freed from the three evil paths, let alone be taught and transformed to stay in the fruit of Once-returner, Non-returner, and Arhat, then wouldn’t the merit and virtue be better than that?

Kāśika, if good men and good women teach all kinds of sentient beings in all worlds in the ten directions to attain the fruition of Stream-winner, Once-returner, Non-returner, and Arhat, then the merit and virtue they will gain is not as good as having someone who teaches a single sentient being, allowing them to abide in the state of Solitary Enlightenment. Why? Kāśika, because the merit of Solitary Enlightenment is better than that of Stream-winner? hundreds, thousands of times.

Kāśika, if good men and good women teach all kinds of sentient beings in all worlds in the ten directions, making them all reside in the state of Solitary Enlightenment, the merit and virtue they will gain is not as good as having someone who teaches a single sentient being towards the highest state of Enlightenment.

Because it is because of the dharma mentioned in this secret collection of Prajnaparamita that the world has the existence of true reality, dharma realm, dharma nature, vain emptiness, unchanging nature, equality, separatist nature, statutory, dharma pillar, actually, empty realm, inconceivable realms; Because it is because of the dharma mentioned in this secret collection of Prajnaparamita that the world has the existence of the Noble Truth of suffering, Noble Truth Collection, The Holy Emperor is destroyed, Noble Truth; Because because of the dharma mentioned in this secret collection of Prajnaparamita, the world has the existence of all fully enlightened Tathagata and the highest Enlightenment of the Buddhas.

Furthermore, Kāśika, if good men and good women accept, uphold, read, recite, and think in accordance with this Prajna Paramita, then those good men and good women will have more merit than the teaching of all kinds of sentient beings in the Southern Shamya, causing them to all abide in the ten paths of good karma, the four Meditations, the four Immeasurables, the four formless Concentrations, and the five miraculous powers.

Kāśika, those good men and good women have more merit than educating all kinds of sentient beings in the Southern Shampa and Eastern continents, making them all abide in the ten paths of good karma, the four Tranquility, the four Immeasurables, the four formless Concentrations, and the five miraculous powers.

Kāśika, those good men and good women have more merit than educating all kinds of sentient beings in the Southern Shastra, the East to win the body, and the West to become cows, making them all abide in the ten paths of good karma, the four Tranquility, the four Immeasurables, the four formless Concentrations, and the five miraculous powers.

Kāśika, those good men and good women have the merit of having more than the ability to educate all kinds of sentient beings in the four great continents, making them all abide in the ten paths of good karma, the four Jingdhis, the four Immeasurables, the four formless Concentrations, and the five miraculous powers.

Kāśika, those good men and good women have more merit than educating all kinds of sentient beings in the microcosm world, making them all abide in the ten paths of good karma, the four Tranquility, the four Immeasurables, the four formless Concentrations, and the five miraculous powers.

Kāśika, those good men and good women have the merit of educating all kinds of sentient beings in the middle world, making them all abide in the ten paths of good karma, the four Jingdhis, the four Immeasurables, the four formless Concentrations, and the five miraculous powers.

Kāśika, those good men and good women have the merit of having three times a thousand times more merit than educating all kinds of sentient beings in the world, making them all abide in the ten paths of good karma, the four Tranquility, the four Immeasurables, the four formless Concentrations, and the five miraculous powers.

Kāśika, those good men and good women, the merit of teaching all kinds of sentient beings in the ten worlds in the ten directions is like the sands of the Ganges River, making them all abide in the ten paths of good karma, the four Tranquility, the four Immeasurables, the four formless Concentrations, and the five miraculous powers.

Kāśika, those good men and good women have more merit than educating all kinds of sentient beings in all worlds in the ten directions, making them all abide in the ten paths of good karma, the four Tranquility, the four Immeasurables, the four formless Concentrations, and the five miraculous powers.

Hey Kāśika, here the right thinking means using the practice of not two, not not two to understand this Prajnaparamita and accept, maintain, read, recite, and think rightly; and use the practice of not-two, not-not-two to understand Tranquility, Diligence, Patience, Pure Precepts, Paramita of Giving, receiving, maintaining, reciting, and thinking properly.

Hey Kāśika, use the practice of not two, not not two to understand the four Meditations, thinking according to reason; and use the practice of not-two, not-not-two to understand, the four Immeasurables, the four formless Concentrations, thinking according to reason.

Kāśika, again use the practice of not two, not not two to understand the eight Liberations, thinking according to reason; and use the practice of not-two, not-not-two to understand the eight Sukhavati, the nine Second Concentrations, the ten Variables, and think according to reason.

Kāśika, again use the practice of not two, not not two to understand the four pillars of mindfulness, thinking according to reason; and use the practice of not two, not not two to understand the four Right Paradigms, the four Divine Powers, the five Faculties, the five Powers, the seven limbs of Enlightenment, the eight limbs of the Noble Path, and think according to reason.

Kāśika, again use the practice of not two, not not two to understand the method of liberation from Emptiness, thinking according to reason; and use the practice of not two, not two to understand, the method of liberation from the Formless, the method of liberation from the Wishless, thinking like reason.

Kāśika, again use the practice of not two, not not two to understand the five types of eyes, thinking like reason; and use the practice of neither two nor two to understand the six magical powers and think according to reason.

Kāśika, again use the practice of not two, not not two to understand the ten powers of Buddha, thinking like reason; and use the practice of not two, not not two to understand the four non-fear, the four clear understandings, great love, great compassion, great joy, great equanimity, eighteen non-combined Buddha dharmas, thinking according to reason.

Kāśika, again use the practice of not two, not not two to understand the conduct of the Great Bodhisattva, thinking according to reason.

Kāśika, again use the practice of not two, not two to understand the highest Enlightenment, thinking according to reason.
Furthermore, Kāśika, if good men and good women, regarding this Prajnaparamita, use countless methods for others to widely speak, show, explain, explain clearly, distinguish the wonderful meaning, making it easy for them to understand, then the merit and virtue they will have is greater than the merit of receiving, reading, reciting, and thinking like the Prajnaparamita by themselves.

Kāśika, what is called the wonderful meaning of Prajnaparamita is that this Prajnaparamita is not two, not not two, not having form, not not having form, not entering and not going out, not increasing and not decreasing, not contaminated and not pure, not born and not destroyed, not maintained and not abandoned, not grasped but not not grasped, neither abiding nor not abiding, not real not not real, not compatible, not not compatible, not compatible, not not compatible, not cause and effect, not not cause and effect, not dharma, not not dharma, not true, not not true, not actual, not not true. Such a profound meaning has countless methods.

Kāśika, if good men and good women often widely teach others about the profound meaning of Prajnaparamita like that, making it easy for them to understand, then the merit and virtue gained is immeasurable times greater than the merit of receiving it yourself, or reading or reciting, thinking like the Prajnaparamita principle.

Furthermore, Kāśika, if good men and good women accept, uphold, read, recite, and recite the Prajnaparamita themselves, think according to reason, and use countless methods for others to speak extensively, show, explain, explain clearly, distinguish the meaning, and make it easy for them to understand, then those good men and good women will have more merit than the blessings mentioned before.

At that time, the Indra told Buddha:
World-Honored One, good men and good women should use skillful and profound literature to preach and instruct about Prajnaparamita like that.

Buddha taught:
Hey Kāśika, that’s right, that’s right! Just like you said! Good men and good women should use skillful and profound literature to explain and instruct about Prajnaparamita like this.

Kāśika, if good men and good women often use profound and skillful literature to preach and instruct Prajnaparamita like that, then those good men and good women will achieve immeasurable, countless, boundless merits of inconceivable greatness.

Kāśika, if good men and good women, throughout their lives, use countless kinds of garlands, incense sticks, and powdered incense? wonderful clothes, clothes, flags, banners, precious parasols, precious gems, beautiful music, bright lights, all existing things, with full peace and joy, respectfully make offerings, respectfully praise all Tathagata Fully Enlightened in the immeasurable, countless worlds in the ten directions; In addition, there are good men and good women who accept, uphold, recite and recite the Prajnaparamita themselves, think according to reason, and rely on skillful and profound literature, using countless methods to extensively speak for others, show, explain, explain clearly, distinguish the profound meaning, making it easy for them to understand, then those good men and good women will have much more merit and virtue than before. Why? Kāśika, because all the Tathagata of the past, future and present have practiced the Prajnaparamita, they have attained the highest Enlightenment, will attain the highest Enlightenment, are achieving the highest Enlightenment.

Furthermore, Kāśika, if the good men and good women in the immeasurable, countless, and boundless aeons use possession as a means and practice the Paramita of Giving; In immeasurable, innumerable, boundless aeons, using possession as a means, practicing the Pure Precept paramita; In the immeasurable, countless, boundless kalpas, use possession as a means to practice the Paramita of Patience; In immeasurable, innumerable, boundless kalpas, use possession as a means to practice the paramita of Diligence; In the immeasurable, countless, boundless kalpas, use possession as a means to practice the Paramita of Tranquility; In immeasurable, countless, boundless kalpas, using possession as a means, practicing Prajnaparamita; Furthermore, there are good men and good women who use the non-obtained Prajnaparamita as a means, accept, recite, recite, think according to reason, and rely on profound and skillful literature, in just a moment for others to explain, show, explain, explain clearly, distinguish the profound meaning, making it easy for them to understand, then the merit and virtue they have will be much greater than those before them.

Hey Kāśika, here, what is called possession means that good men and good women, when practicing almsgiving, think like this: I am the one who gives, that is the one who receives. This is giving, the result of giving and the thing given?; When that person practices almsgiving but clings to the name of almsgiving, it cannot be called the perfection of almsgiving, because he uses possession as a means. If good men and good women, when practicing the Pure Precepts, think like this: ?I have the ability to keep the precepts because of protecting the precepts. This is the result of keeping the precepts and the precepts that are kept?; When that person maintains the precepts and clings to the name of pure precepts, it cannot be called Pure Precepts Paramita, because he uses acquired possessions as a means. If good men and good women, when practicing Patience, think like this: ?I have the ability to practice Patience, for the purpose of protecting Patience. This is the result of patience and the nature of patience?; When that person practices patience and clings to the name of patience, he cannot be called the perfection of patience, because he uses possession as a means. If good men and good women, when practicing Diligently, think like this: ?I have the ability to practice diligently because I aim to practice diligently. This is the result of diligence and the nature of diligence?; When that person is diligent but clings to the name of diligence, it cannot be called the Paramita of Diligence, because he uses possession as a means. If good men and good women, when practicing Jing Yu, think like this: ?I have the ability to practice meditation, that is the state of concentration. This is the result of concentration and the nature of concentration?; When that person practices meditation and is attached to the name of meditation, it cannot be called the perfection of meditation because he uses possession as a means. If good men and good women, when practicing Prajna, think like this: ?I have the ability to practice wisdom; That is the wisdom scene. This is the result of Prajna and the nature of Prajna?; When that person cultivates wisdom and clings to the name Prajnaparamita, he cannot be called Prajnaparamita, because he uses possession as a means.

Kāśika, those good men and good women, because they use acquired possessions as a means, are unable to perfect Generosity, Pure Precepts, Forbearance, Diligence, Tranquility, and Prajnaparamita.

Divine Indra said to Buddha:
World-Honored One, how can the Great Bodhisattva perfect Almsgiving, Purity of Precepts, Patience, Diligence, Calmness, and Prajnaparamita?

Buddha taught:
Hey Kāśika, if the Great Bodhisattva, when practicing almsgiving, does not see a giver, a receiver, a giving, the result of giving, and the object given, because he used non-attainment as a means, then he can perfect the perfection of Giving. If the Great Bodhisattva, when practicing the pure precepts, does not see anyone upholding the precepts, the result of the protection and precepts being kept, because he has used non-attainment as a means, can fulfill the Pure Precept paramita. If the Great Bodhisattva, when practicing patience, does not see anyone who is patient, the result of patience and the nature of patience, because he has used non-attainment as a means, then he can perfect the perfection of patience. If the Great Bodhisattva, when practicing diligently, does not see diligence, the results of diligence, and the self-nature of diligence, because he has used non-attainment as a means, then he can perfect the Paramita of Diligence. If the Great Bodhisattva, when practicing meditation, does not see someone’s concentration, the scene of concentration, the result of concentration, and the nature of meditation, because he has used non-attainment as a means, then he can perfect the perfection of meditation. If the Great Bodhisattva, when practicing Prajnaparamita, does not see anyone cultivating wisdom, the state of wisdom, the result of cultivating wisdom and the self-nature of Prajna, because he has used nothingness as a means, then he can perfect Prajnaparamita.
